OpenMicro lets you control an AI coding assistant, such as Claude Code or Codex, using a game controller instead of a keyboard. It maps the buttons, sticks, and d-pad of a controller like a PlayStation DualSense or a GameSir GameSir G7 Pro to actions you would normally type or click, so you can submit a message, interrupt the agent, start a new chat, or trigger a whole workflow like reviewing a pull request with a single button press or stick flick. Once installed, you run one command to launch either Claude Code, the Codex CLI, or the Codex desktop app with controller support active. Face buttons handle the basics: submitting, interrupting, push to talk, and starting a new session. Flicking the left stick in a direction launches preset workflows such as reviewing a PR, debugging, refactoring, or writing tests, while the right stick adjusts how much the model is allowed to think before answering, when the underlying tool supports it. Holding one shoulder button while pressing another control switches between six different layers of remappable controls, so a single controller can hold several project specific setups at once. It also supports switching focus between multiple active coding sessions from the same controller. Setup is mostly automatic, but a few features, like the thinking depth dial in the Codex desktop app, require a one time manual step to assign keyboard shortcuts inside that app's own settings, since those bindings are tied to your account rather than something OpenMicro can set directly. The project currently only supports macOS, requires Node.js 22 or newer, and is written in TypeScript.
