Privacy

What we collect, why, how to delete it.

What we store

When you sign up for a free ExplainGit account so you can analyze repos that aren't yet cached, we store:

We do not store passwords (sign-in is magic-link only). We do not run third-party trackers, analytics, or advertising scripts.

What we don't store

Bot detection

Sign-up forms include a Cloudflare Turnstile widget. Turnstile is an invisible bot-detection layer that runs in your browser without storing personal data. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to that interaction.

Email delivery

Confirmation emails are sent via Migadu (an EU-based email provider). Migadu's privacy policy applies to that delivery.

AI generation

When you trigger an analysis on an uncached repo, we send the repo's public README to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the plain-English explanation. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that call. The generated text is then cached so future visitors don't trigger another generation.

Deletion

To delete your account and all associated data, email [email protected] from the address tied to your account. We'll confirm deletion within 7 days. Generated explanations of public repos stay in the cache (they don't identify you).

Legal basis

For users in the EU/UK, the lawful basis for processing your email is consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) / EU GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Consent is given by submitting the sign-up form. Confirmation via the email link demonstrates consent per Art. 7(1).
