Requires you to already own a legal copy of the game disc and a PS1 BIOS file, neither of which are included.
This project lets you play the original PlayStation 1 game Legend of Legaia on Windows, by recompiling its code into a native Windows program rather than emulating the console. It was built using a tool called psxrecomp, which converts PS1 machine code into code that runs directly on your PC. The project does not include the game itself. You need to already own a legally obtained copy of the North American version of the game as a disc image, along with a legally obtained PS1 BIOS file, since neither of those are provided or distributed here. Once you have both files, you place them into specific folders alongside the downloaded release, then run the included program to start playing. A good amount of the game has already been tested and works, including moving through fields, towns, and the world map, cutscenes, saving and loading, combat and combo attacks, special abilities, and side activities like the fishing minigame and slot machine. That said, this is described as an early playtest build rather than a finished, official release, so players are asked to back up their original save files and report any crashes or bugs they run into, including the location and action that caused the problem. For advanced users, there is a hidden debug mode you can access through key presses that opens the game's original developer menu, along with an external overlay for additional debugging options. The project credits several other reverse engineering efforts that made this recompilation possible, and is clear that it has no affiliation with Sony or the game's original creators, and that all game assets remain the property of their original rights holders.
