Codex Dream Skin is a free, open source theming tool for the Codex desktop app on macOS and Windows. It lets a user add a custom background image, banner, and color accents to the app's window without changing how the app actually works. The native sidebar, project list, suggestion cards, task view, and input box all stay fully clickable, since the theme only affects decoration and background, not the real interface underneath. On macOS, the tool supports local images in common formats, images pulled from an online address, saved theme names with taglines and quotes, a menu bar control panel, saving and switching between multiple themes, and a full restore back to the official look. On Windows, it installs a starter theme and adds a system tray menu for picking a local image, saving the current theme, switching between saved themes, pausing, and restoring the original appearance. HTTPS hosted images work directly on macOS, while on Windows they need to be downloaded locally first. Installation is meant to be handled by talking to Codex itself: a user pastes a prepared instruction into the app, chooses a theme option, confirms one install popup, and lets Codex install the skill, apply the theme, and verify the result automatically. Advanced users can instead clone the repository manually and copy the skill folder into their local Codex skills directory. Under the hood, the tool works by launching the official Codex desktop app and connecting to it through a local only Chromium DevTools Protocol connection to inject theme styling and decorative layers. It does not modify, replace, or resign the official application files, and it is pinned to a specific checked commit that gets verified again after download. A verification step confirms the theme CSS is present, the native controls still work, and nothing overlaps or blocks clicks, and a separate restore command removes the theme and returns Codex to its original appearance.
